Set in Derry, Maine, IT begins in October, 1988. Georgie Denbrough mysteriously disappears after he enthusiastically steps out into the pouring rain to set sail the SS Georgie - a paper boat that his older brother, Bill made for him.
Fast forward to June, 1989… Bill and his friends, an awkward group of kids known as The Losers’ Club, are determined to find Georgie. This journey leads to the discovery that Derry has a terrifying secret, and the members of the group, one by one, face their worst fears as they encounter shape shifting demonic presence who identifies himself as Pennywise the Dancing Clown.
Pennywise is incredible! Bill Skarsgård was spot on! Pennywise is truly a nightmare - his voice, his movements, his expressions - everything! If you don’t have a fear of clowns before seeing this, you very well might after!
IT is the PERFECT blend of emotions, terror, unpredictable jump scares, and humor. The R rating was a necessity. It really let this film go where it needed to. The banter amongst the group is hilarious and the effects are incredible! That being said, the effects were not overly gory or unnecessary. Everything came together seamlessly in a perfect mix of funny and fear!
The entire cast was phenomenal! You love who you are supposed to, hate who you are supposed to, and get creeped out by who you should. From the Losers’ Club, to the town bullies, to Bev’s highly repulsive father, each and every single actor was perfect for the part they played.
Being that the film isn’t released yet, I am leaving this somewhat vague on purpose as to not ruin the experience for anyone else. I will say this: Don’t expect the entire story to be told in this single film. It isn’t. And that’s intentional.
Needless to say, I HIGHLY recommend this movie. Not only was I happy that I had the opportunity to see it in theaters, I will also be buying it as soon as it’s released on Blu-ray!
You’ll Float Too when IT opens in theaters nationwide on September 8, 2017.
